Murdo Murchison Over 35 Years of Experience!
How it started...
1969
A wee boy started serving petrol, repairing punctures and sweeping the floor of the family garage started by his Grandfather in 1932. Petrol then cost 6/6 a gallon or 32.5p!!
My interest in cars developed and as a schoolboy I repaired and sold cars to my teachers.
1975
The best day of my life to that point came when I left school and started working full time for M. Murchison & Sons, Main St. Kyle, Ross-shire. Valuable experience was gained but I saw things very differently to my father and knew that my future would not be in the family business.
1981
Started work as a salesman for a Fiat dealer in Inverness and found that I enjoyed selling cars and soon had people in London wondering why so many Fiats were being sold to the West Coast of Scotland!
1989
Became area manager for the Lancia division of Fiat covering Scotand and Northern Ireland. Moved to Stirling but found that I was never at home and while the job was very interesting I knew that I would be happier with the one to one contact with customers I had enjoyed in the past
1991
Finally started to sell cars under my own name from Gargunnock filling station 6 miles west of Stirling with an office in the house. Happy Days!! As the business grew I had to find my own premises in Stirling.
1993
Banks being banks they didn't want me to spend money on property but I knew we had to establish a base in Stirling and bought 15 Springkerse Road Stirling, a former scrapyard!
1996
Bought 1.5 acres of development ground at 9 Borrowmeadow Road Stirling with no help from the bank and active discouragement from the Local Authority.
1999
Moved into our new purpose built premises on part of the Borrowmeadow Road site much has still to be achieved but the goal of establishing a quality outlet without incurring the huge overheads of other Car Dealers has been achieved.
2003
In 2003 we sold Borrowmeadow Road and moved to Doune six miles from Stirling on the A84, much effort has gone into refurbishing a very run down building which is now restored. Our stock has expanded, the advantage of Doune is that it is easy to find and rates are much lower, hopefully this will mean a more competitive deal for our customers.
